Is it possible that in this small Cyladic island were born so many people who who have distinguished themselves in fine arts? And yet it is……

Cuisine and local products of Tinos
The traditional cuisine of Tinos is distinguished for its exceptional quality and taste.
Fresh fish, local beef, pork and the agricultural products are consuetude the basis of the cuisine of Tinos. Mrs. Nikoleta Delatola Foskolou, who has published 2 books with the gastronomy of Cyclades and Mr. Renos Arathimos, member of Chef’s Club of Greece, welcomed us in Tinos and cooked the traditional omelette of the island and pasta with local sausage and cheese (see photos below).
Don’t miss the opportunity to try the delicious cheeses of Tinos and “loutza” a type of salami, which is very much like the Italian prosciutto.

Shopping in Tinos

In Hora, the flea market on Evangelistria Street is a pleasant place for a ramble.
Pedestrianized Evangelistria parallels Megaloharis, the main street from the harbor up to the cathedral. Shops and stalls lining Evangelistria Street sell icons, incense, candles, medallions, tamata (tin, silver, and gold votives) and religious objects, including reproductions of the miraculous icon.
You’ll also find local embroidery, weavings and in sweets shops you can bye tasteful profiterole, traditional sweet pies, and fantastic loukoumades with ice cream!
Weekdays, a fish market and a farmer’s market set up in the square by the docks. Keep an eye out for the rather pink-plumed pelican who hangs out nearby.
Those interested in local produce should head a few steps up from the harbor to 16 Megaloharis, the shop of the local agricultural cooperative, where pungent capers, creamy cheeses, olive oil, and the fiery local tsiporo liqueur are on sale.
If you like capers, stock up; I got mine safely back to Athens and enjoyed them for months.
