Kea is a small island in the Cyclades that got known to the modern world when Titanic’s sister ship Britannica sunk here in 1916. The wreck is still here, and there is constant activity around it. The island in itself is a charming little paradise and it is still a very genuine place to visit. There are a few taverns and cafes, and the pace is slow and comfortable. Kea is an excellent alternative for those who want to get away from the busier islands, but still don’t want the total quiet. Discover the island’s charms: rocky spires, verdant valleys filled with orchards, olive groves and oak trees, and excellent walking trails.

The main settlements are the port of Korissia and the attractive capital, Ioulida, about 5 km inland. Local people call the island Tzia.

If you are looking for an island that is close to Athens but has the feeling of an island much further away, then Kea may be the place for you!

How to get there

Kea Island (Tzia) is an 1 hour boat trip from the Port of Lavrio, which can be easily approached directly from Piraeus Port and the Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” and other areas in Athens and Attica, by car and public transport. There are daily ferry trips from Lavrio Port to Kea Island and the island is also connected by boat to the islands of Syros and Kythnos.
